Thank you for reading ๐Ÿ™‚

Seraphim

As my sis has pointed out, I cannot mention Angel without writing something about Angel’s creation – the child-like Seraphim. Described as being built from several suits of armour with six arms and no speech abilities, Seraphim is able to wield six swords at once (4 swords and 2 guns in Tapestry of Fates), and comes complete with a huge sense of justice and devotion to his friends.

As an assault droid, Angel programmed Seraphim to act in an ultra violent, rampaging mania if her life is threatened or if she comes to harm. He is also programmed to obey all of her commands, disguised as kind requests.

His violent side is mirrored in his benevolent nature and innocence, as is shown in Book 2 of Tapestry of Fates (Spirit’s Pain) when he introduced.

ย ย  When he got to Gemma, she looked up at him through red ringed eyes; tears streaming down her face.

ย ย  Did you kill him?โ€™ She whispered to the tall droid as he freed her from the shackles.

ย ย  Seraphim paused and then slowly placed a finger under Gemmaโ€™s eye, carefully wiping her tear away. His eyes shone a deep blue. Softly bleeping he nodded at her.

ย ย  โ€˜Thank you.โ€™ She quietly choked, embracing Seraphim tightly, who in return held her back.

Here is an excerpt from my other tale ‘The Lost Flame’ that perfectly describes the nature of Seraphim.

Please excuse the very poor grammer – it is over ten years old.

Whoever heard of a robotic angel?

I’ll be honest, Uni was pretty much a big waste of time for me! Not having a proper tutor for the entire first year, getting myself in major debt, and forgetting just about everything there is to learn about Animation just about sums up how pointless for me it was.

There were good things mind! I had a blast whilst I was there, it helped push me towards the wrtiting side of productions, helped with my art, and I got to throw my mortar board in the air at graduation. Uni was also responsible for giving me a character that I have been determined to put in every piece of writing I create even if I had to change her to a pink-haired human if necessary.

One of our assignments was to create an original character based upon two completely different subjects or genres. For instance one of my friends created a Transvestite Gladiator. I decided to combine Robots and Angels, and named my character Cyphangel. Her back story was that she was an assasination droid, built in pinks and purples to deceive her targets. We had to construct these characters using a crude armature and plasticine.

To this day that model remains at my dad’s house, and Cyphangel has morphed into simply ‘Angel’. She has also give rise to my sister’s and friend Symon’s fave character – the childlike, four sword, two gun wielding Seraphim. So far both character’s have appeared in both Tapestry of Fates and Phoenix, serving as a link to the two tales.

Recently I was quite disheartened to see a character in Tekken 6 paying more than a slight resemblence to Angel, in both looks (pink hair) and storyline.Thankfully I could never be accused of stealing as it’s nearly a decade since I left uni.

Now I’m due to put Angel into Fallen Tears.

Has anyone heard of a robotic, vampire angel?

Book of Goals

After watching the film ‘The Opus’ (a very similar movie to The Secret) I decided I wanted a small notebook I could keep with me at all times that I could write some life’s goals in.

Problem was that the only ones I could find in shops were quite bland and boring. I wanted something a little bit special, a notebook I would want to keep safe and hold on to for years to come.

Then I found this website: http://www.earthworksjournals.co.uk

And after a couple of emails to the very friendly owners requesting it to be personalised, here’s what I was sent.

The picture doesn't do it justice.

This awesome little book (A7) is handmade and smells wonderfully of leather.

Thanks to the owners of Earth Works Journals for this stunning product. I recommend them if you’re looking for something similar, and I shall be ordering more in the future. ๐Ÿ™‚

Now to fill this book with my dodgy, child-like handwriting. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fallen Tears Novel Update

Still penning the character list for my online novel. Unlike Tapestry of Fates I’ve done the same as I did with Last Battle and write out an exhaustive list of the characters. There’s quite a large roster of people in this (plenty of vampire fodder) with very few characters based on people I know ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s one of the evil characters that is a little bit inspired by Kirsten Dunst in Interview with a Vampire.

I’ve named this 8 year old vamp Voracity after the amount of blood and humans (and even fellow vamps and demons) she gorges on.

I could’ve spent a bit more time on this photomanip but I’ve got to get back to work ๐Ÿ˜€

Book Corrections

Ok, having gone through the proof book, I can say I’m honestly proud I managed to create the whole thing without any outside help (apart from Youtube tutorials).

However, certain elements were overlooked. The ‘guttering’ being one of them.

The text appears to be too close to the spine so I need to increse this space. This is going to drive up the page count, so in turn the spine image will need amending.

Phew, I guess it’s all part of the learning process! ๐Ÿ˜€

Slowly but surely getting there ๐Ÿ™‚

The First Published Book Arrives

Just got these pics off Bev!

Finally! The proof book has arrived! ๐Ÿ˜€

Fallen Tears – Blurb

The Blurb (the bit at the back of a book that tells you a little about the story) to my new monthly novel.

This is pretty much all I have to go off the tale so it’ll be interesting for me as well to see how it develops.

When the parents of the young Dancescu twins are brutally murdered by their demonic uncle, they are quickly hurried away to safety, leaving their beautiful country of Tranvaal to be plunged into the deepest recesses of Hell; a land so twisted and blackened that no sunlight or colour can penetrate.

As vicious demons and monstrous vampires roam the countryside, the people of Tranvaal are left in utter despair, fearful of their new ruler and the powerful grip of terror he has over them.

But years later, when any glimmer of hope has been violently torn from the world, two lone figures suddenly appear from the shadows.

The Dancescu twins have returned; fueled with hearts of pure vengeance, and possessing infernal powers. Striding through the lands and slaughtering everything the fires of hell can unleash upon them, they fix their sights on the abode of their nefarious uncle.

Yet as they close in on the source of the vampiric reign, they must resist their own inherited blood-lust if they are to have any chance of destroying this plague of evil and defeating the traitor that destroyed their lives.

New Monthly Novel – Fallen Tears

I’ve noticed recently with all the work I’ve done trying to illustrate and market Book 1 of Tapestry of Fates I’ve had little time to do what I set out to do – write!

I’ve toyed for a while now to do a story for this blog, uploading a new chapter free every month without illustrations, which will serve as a welcome temporary distraction from my other unavoidable workload.

After debating which tale I’d like to do, I’ve decided on the vampiric story I’ve had on the back burner for well over thriteen years (I still have a really old sketch somewhere when it was called Dark Destinies). I think the demand for vampire based literature is still pretty high, although this tale will not be a teenage love story (love elements will be in there though). Another deciding factor for this is the fact my sister recently gave birth to twin boy and girl – the main characters are twin brother and sister, so they will be renamed fittingly.

I know this will please my good friend Laura who keeps requesting I pen this novel. ๐Ÿ˜€

Also I’m heading to Transylvania this November so I may get some inspiration. hehe!

I will write the blurb on my lunch and upload.

Book 2 Progress

Now I’m definitely fighting against the tide here. Trying to get the website up and running with all of the illustrations created, whilst also juggling the rewrite of Book 2 – Spirit’s Pain, completing the cover of it (part of which is below), do all the illustrations for it, start work on the next children’s book – The Starmites (Bev will kill for me announcing that name) and hold down a full time job.

There’s hardly enough time to have a beer with friends – but somehow I manage it ๐Ÿ˜€

Can somebody please invent a few more hours to the day? It would be sooooo appreciated!

Death and Transition of Ambition

Remember back when you were in very young in school and the teacher went around the classroom asking everyone what they wanted to be when they grew up, to which every child replied back with some typical (mostly public service) vocation – ‘Fireman’, ‘Train Driver’, ‘Nurse’, etc. Now did this simple exercise actually happen? Or were we led to believe it did through an ever convincing media.

I certainly have no idea if it did, let alone know what my reply would have been!

But a lot of people do remember what they wanted to be, and in reaching adulthood, their chosen job is usually vastly different to the one they decided upon at a tender five years old. My girlfriend Wendy says she wanted to be a vet as a youngster, and is now a hair stylist – a job she fell into at sixteen (and thankfully adores). Why is this? Is it because we are too naive as a child to fully understand the ins and outs of each profession and by the time we learn what it entails we decide being a policeman is no longer just about ‘catching the black and white jumpered robber’ but more akin to an emotionally straining job dealing with all wakes of life, and a negative national perception?

Or is it because we believe we have no control over our lives and simply find ourselves fitting into society as easily as a jigsaw piece, conforming to what the greater world wants us to do for a living.

I myself decided in high school that I wanted to be a Graphic Designer, as did quite a few people without really being told what it was about. So after doing Graphics for GCSE, I took a BTEC National Diploma in the same subject. However, I quickly learned that it wasn’t for me. I just didn’t enjoy the ‘strictness’ and ‘precisenes’ of the art. But within the course, Art itself was taught, so I made the choice to complete my two years.

During this time my sister introduced me to Japanese animation, namely The Guyver – something that would change my life forever. Embracing my new found love for the Manga world, I switched my chosen profession to being an Animator, declaring I’d never be a Graphic Designer. But in order to get on the course I wanted, I had to take a one year’s Art Foundation course. This one year heralded a group of friends I’ve posted at an earlier date. This was also the year my own artwork yielded short accompanying storylines which would develop into whole volumes of text (this is the year my Phoenix stories came into being).

A few years later, during my Animation degree, I once again changed my idea of a perfect job. To be a Screenplay Writer! Throwing myself into the art of screenplay writing I spewed out a few works and quietly dispatched them around the world, naively thnking I’d hear great things back (I did hear some ‘ok’ things).

With my degree over, I went to work full time at the pub I’d been at for the past the past five years. Not a great job considering I’d just undertaken a befuddled 6 years of higher education in the arts!

But pretty soon my ‘jigsaw of society’ fell into place! I was offered a job by friend as a……Graphic Designer.

Either fate was playing a cruel trick, or it was leading me somewhere much better, and let’s face it, a Graphic Designer pays better than a barman (just).ย  With my goals in life all over the place, I took the job and have remained in it for almost nine years, and whilst it’s not quite the same as being my own boss, I do nevertheless enjoy the job and the company.

Now however, my goals have become clear and at the age of thirty, I can honestly say I know what I want to be when I grow up! ๐Ÿ˜€ Writing books has taken over my life, and certain developments over the past few years has pushed me towards this life-consuming ambition. It hasn’t been easy though, and it’s taken a lot of hard work, luck, and personal growth books to get here.

One thing I do know is that if the media continues to contrive our view of how society should be – a place where we should ‘accept our lot in life’ and ‘like it or lump it’ then we will continue to see the vast majority of people having their dreams and ambitions reduced to dust, forever tied into a job that will suck the very soul out of them, or even worse – a life on government paid benefits. Like a typical character from Eastenders, these people will lead an unfilling life of unhappiness. Life becomes nothing more than an existance. Just watch an episode of Jeremy Kyle, to see these unfortunate souls, paraded around in front of us like circus animals, chewed up and spat out by modern civilisation, vastly unaware of how they are viewed by the majority of the public. This ‘chat show’ perfectly shows the ever increasing class divide in this country.

My personal opinion is that something is lacking from our education system. When asking young pupils what they would like to be when they grow up, they should be encouraged to learn that the world is indeed their oyster and that they can have or do anything they choose with enough passion and belief, no matter what their circumstances! Giving young people hope and a firm belief in the goodness in the world may help alleviate some of the social strains we see in our country, that cumulated in the riots we saw last week. Many of these young tearaways declared there were no opportunities in this world – and that’s precisely what they’ve been led to believe.

I’m not saying this excuses what they did, far from it! A lot of these rioters are absolute scum, and deserve fitting punishments. I’m also not saying this is the only factor involved – many were simply criminal opportunists.ย  But it does answer a root question which politicians are frantically scratching their heads over. I simply don’t believe everyone is born bad.

Our government has shown the youth the hell that their lives can become.

So why act so surprised when they act like little devils.

As for myself, maybe if I’d been taught that nothing in life is out of reach at school, then maybe I’d have found my life’s purpose a little quicker.

I only hope I would have replied to my teacher I wanted to be a novelist. ๐Ÿ™‚

Website Illustrations

Well as the book launch nears and the website is ‘becoming’, I’ve decided to create some new artwork for the site, rather than simply rehash the illustrations from the actual book.

Here is the first one of Gemma. Few bits need adjusting, most notably her arms and face.

The Secret Service – Flash Mob

In a previous post I spoke about my friend who was fulfilling her dreams through her own business – a unique gift service called The Secret Service.

Well, in order to garner interest in her new endeavour she successfully organised a ‘Flash Mob’ in the streets of Blackpool. For a few dynamic moments, a group of seemingly unrelated people broke spontaneously into a music filled dance routine, stunning shoppers and passers-by.

If there’s one that seems to propel great businesses forward, it’s unique ideas carried out effectively. This is one of the best I’ve ever heard of.
And now my friend is planning greater things for her dream company.

Well done Cheryl. ๐Ÿ™‚ I wish you all the best for the future.x

Norway Massacre

Just a short post to express my sadness over the 90+ killed in the terrorist attacks.

Please don’t give the mass murderer responsible a stage to express what he has to say. He deserves no rights.

My thoughts go out to the families of those tragically lost.
